Abstract The Ashanti Empire, also known as the Ashanti Confederation, was a significant pre-colonial African state located in present-day Ghana. The chapter examines the historical and cultural factors that influenced the Ashanti Empire's development, focusing on its political organisation, economic activities and interactions with European powers. It highlights the empire's rise and fall, emphasising the role of cultural values and external influences. The chapter discusses the Ashanti Empire's origins, its expansion and its eventual decline due to internal conflicts and European colonial pressures.
