Chapter Chapter 5 in Future of Economy in Asia, 2025, pp 89-106 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Disruptive vision represents a transformative approach to shaping the future economy, characterised by innovative strategies and foresight. In the context of Asia's rapidly evolving economies, where technological advancements and shifting market dynamics redefine competitive landscapes, such vision becomes critical for firms to remain resilient and relevant. This study investigates the impact of disruptive vision on firm performance by analysing the vision statements of 392 Malaysian listed firms through text analysis. Employing robust OLS regression, the findings reveal that firms with disruptive visions outperform their counterparts, demonstrating a significant positive relationship between disruptive vision and performance. These results highlight the potential of disruptive vision to drive competitive advantage and sustainable growth in an increasingly dynamic and uncertain economic landscape. Drawing on impression management and organisational orientation theory, this research shows how crafting and effectively communicating a disruptive vision can enhance organisational outcomes.
