Innovation Capabilities: Powered by AI
George Krasadakis
Chapter 4 in Innovation Mode 2.0, 2026, pp 85-119 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Modern corporate innovation demands sophisticated capabilities that streamline the journey from opportunity identification and concept framing to in-market business experimentation and adoption. This chapter presents a comprehensive framework of AI-powered innovation capabilities that transform how organizations discover, validate, and realize opportunities. It begins by structuring the innovation agenda as a strategic tool that helps leaders focus their innovation efforts. It then explores a series of AI-powered capabilities, including the market intelligence service that senses the market, along with the opportunity discovery and validation functions that accelerate the identification and testing of high-potential concepts through business experimentation based on real-world evidence. The framework also includes the opportunity realization service, which is optimized to rapidly develop Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) and drive in-market growth toward product-market fit. This chapter also describes capabilities such as the Opportunity Portfolio Manager, the Innovation Performance Measurement, and Knowledge Management systems. Readers will learn how an AI-powered Innovation Portal—the “home of innovation” can serve as a digital hub connecting and coordinating all capabilities, incorporating gamification and recognition systems to reward innovators along with tools that enable open innovation approaches through external partnerships and ecosystems.
