Chapter 5 in The Demand for Alternative Finance, 2025, pp 93-117 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines public trust in the savings finance sector, focusing on interest-free financial models, through an empirical analysis of survey data from 662 participants. Grounded in the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), the study employs statistical tests (Chi-square, Fisher’s exact, Cramer’s V) to assess relationships between demographic variables, trust, and consumer behavior. Findings reveal that 44.71% of respondents lacked awareness of savings finance, while 34.14% viewed it as a viable alternative to real estate financing. Trust levels were significantly influenced by age, gender, education, and religious practices, with regular worshipers exhibiting higher confidence. Despite skepticism, a notable segment perceived savings finance as competitive with conventional models. The analysis underscores the critical role of trust and knowledge in shaping consumer preferences, advocating for policies that enhance transparency and public education to bolster sectoral growth and competitiveness.
