Abstract: Abstract Research on positive leadership emphasizes that the development of an authentic leadership identity is contingent upon the leader's self-awareness and self-reflection. A crucial aspect of self-awareness is the capacity to recognize one's own emotions and their underlying causes. The concept of emotional identity has been employed to describe perception of one's own emotions and the factors that drive them, drawing upon experiences as far back as childhood. This chapter examines the concept of emotional identity with two research questions: How do educational leaders describe their own emotional identity and its construction? What types of emotional identity can be identified in the educational leaders’ narratives? The narrative research included thematic interviews with 16 educational leaders. The analysis of narratives resulted in the identification of four categories that represented the ways in which leaders described the construction of their emotional identity and its manifestation in their leadership.
