A chapter in Workplace Democracy, 2026, pp 45-65 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, we introduce a conceptual model to differentiate various levels and practices of workplace democracy, which could help researchers, organizations and decision-makers to understand democratization of work and its potential for organizations as well as society, and how to do it to various degrees and in different settings. We also suggest three organizational orientations towards sustainability as a third dimension of the model, which ensures that democratic decisions take the wellbeing of the organization as well as external environmental and social considerations into account. Finally, the model as well as the potentials of incorporating sustainability as an integral part of workplace democracy is discussed.
