Chapter Chapter 5 in Ferdinando Galiani, 2026, pp 245-291 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The chapter is dedicated to monetary policy, in particular to the problem of alzamento (devaluation). Galiani’s most interesting contribution is related to the analysis justifying the devaluation manoeuvre. The Neapolitan abbot draws attention to the transitional phase between the devaluation and the rising of prices, pointing out that a real period of time characterises the movement towards equilibrium. It will be the same point of view that just a year later, in the essay On Money, Hume adopted to evaluate the positive effects of an increase in the money supply.
