Chapter 1 in The European Framework of Credit Intermediaries, 2026, pp 1-12 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter introduces the study of credit intermediation in Europe. It outlines its scope, objectives, and methodological approach. It defines the role of credit intermediaries as facilitators between credit providers and borrowers and introduces the countries analysed (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom). The chapter highlights the economic relevance of credit distribution, the diversity of regulatory frameworks, and the importance of consumer protection and transparency. It also provides an overview of the standardized questionnaire methodology adopted to ensure comparability across jurisdictions.
