Abstract This chapter investigates the Portuguese system of credit intermediation and the role of the Bank of Portugal. It outlines the legal and regulatory framework for credit brokers and agents, as well as the licensing procedures required to operate in mortgage and consumer credit markets. The chapter examines the supervisory role of national authorities and transparency standards.
