Chapter Chapter 8 in Industrial Organization, 2026, pp 161-165 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The appendix provides complementary materials that enrich the main text by offering both theoretical and empirical insights. The first part is dedicated to game theory, presenting essential concepts such as strategies, Nash equilibrium, and repeated games. These tools are fundamental for understanding strategic interactions in industrial organization, particularly in oligopoly and collusion models. The second part focuses on empirical evidence, showcasing how data and case studies validate or challenge theoretical predictions. Examples include analyses of market concentration, antitrust cases, and the effectiveness of regulation across countries. The appendix thus bridges theory and practice, allowing students to appreciate the relevance of industrial organization in real-world contexts. By revisiting mathematical models and empirical findings, the appendix helps consolidate learning and equips students with the methodological tools required for further research. It closes by encouraging the integration of empirical analysis with theoretical reasoning, strengthening students’ ability to critically evaluate problems in economics and business.
