Abstract:
Abstract The transition from internal combustion to battery electric powertrain has presented challenges to the automotive industry. The success of decisions made by procurement within a single firm is often dependent on complementary actions executed by other industry members and policymakers, akin to a 3D chessboard, where one decision made by any entity can send ripple effects both across the industry and over time. This multi-use case study is intended to capture this complex dynamic and ask students interested in the role of procurement in such an environment to consider the factors driving industry change by adopting the perspectives of multiple industry members. The cases can be used either in-class using the provided briefs or as the basis for a longer project by asking students to conduct their own investigation and research.
