Chapter 84 in Operator Theory, 2026, pp 2607-2642 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The notion of the “inner-outer factorization” plays an important role in the function theory of the unit disk, and the closely related theory of the unilateral shift operator in Hilbert space. We survey some recent developments in the extension of this theory to the setting of noncommutative function theory, and the associated operator theory of row isometries (systems of shifts with orthogonal ranges).
