Abstract: Abstract We are in pursue for a successful digital future. Digitalisation has transformed societies and economies across the world for the past 20 years and continues to do so at an ever-faster speed. In this chapter we will concisely delineate the main characteristics of Digitalization—a core component of the European twin transitionTwin transition (green + digital). We will explain the essence of digitalization as a solution in the context of rural areas; we will dwell on relevant European policies, at the Union level, for the assimilation of digitalization in rural areas and we will try to clarify the challenges and barriers to success.
