Abstract: Abstract This book presented the findings from a project that investigates domestic and global drivers and enablers of capital flight from Cameroon, Ghana, and Zambia. The three country case studies teach us a lot regarding the linkages between natural resources and capital flight and the causes of the poor performance in leveraging these resources to promote long-term economic development. The analysis presented in this book suggests that African resource-rich countries must undertake game-changing policy reforms—not just marginal adjustments to the status quo—if they hope to fully leverage their natural resource endowment to achieve strong, sustained, and inclusive economic development. However, to be effective, the efforts by African governments must be supported by reforms in the global trade and financial systems as well as national regulations in the Global North which is the primary destination of Africa’s natural resources and capital flight. Below, we highlight some of the key areas of focus of the reforms.
