Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter we analyze the geometric formulation of special relativity proposed by Hermann Minkowski in 1907 (see [70]), two years after the publication of Albert Einstein’s famous paper on the special theory of relativity. Minkowki’s proposal represents a fundamental step toward the transcription of physics into geometric language. This geometric formulation allows us to overcome the laborious computations that are necessary to verify the covariance of physical laws. Further, it represents the bridge that Einstein crossed to arrive at the geometric formulation of gravitation.
