Chapter Chapter 8 in Productive Transformation in Africa, 2026, pp 179-194 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The chapter explores Africa’s industrial future and concludes the book. This forward-looking section synthesises the findings and connects them to broader issues regarding Africa’s prospects for industrial transformation and the expansion of global partnerships, both within the Global South and the Global North. China remains a key player due to the progress made over the past 25 years (2001–2025) and the resilience of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which has contributed to Africa’s economic transformation. It offers insights into productive transformation, emphasising the importance of green and sustainable industrialisation, and China’s advancement in green development as a potential contributor to green transition. Moreover, it offers strategic lessons for Africa and the broader Global South, underscoring the importance of agency, experimentation, and geopolitical rebalancing in shaping future pathways. Carbon-neutral industrialisation and low-carbon options could play a significant role in shaping future developments.
