Abstract:
Abstract This chapter aims to introduce the logical concept of symbolic species starting from the general concept of species. This concept is defined based on the method of sufficiency predicates—one of these predicates is the principle of autopoiesis, which act in four distinct cases. Next, three categories of species are identified (biological, symbolical, and logic). An analytical discussion is developed regarding the basic issues associated with the concept of species, especially the membrane and the replication. Further a general typology of symbolic species is established, based on five distinct criteria of classification. So, each criterion generates a number of symbolic species, so that, based on all criteria 20 species of symbolic species can be identified. In this context, some (logical) formalisms are developed from the evolutionism perspective. The last part of the chapter is dedicated to a large discussion regarding the society (societal system) as a symbolic species, by examining some issues as the genesis of society, and the nature of the state. The Annex 1, regarding the binomial state–society is added, aimed at reviewing the main positionings in the literature on the issue of the genesis of state and society.
