Abstract:
Abstract This concluding chapter synthesizes the book’s central claim: information systems have moved from backstage infrastructure to the main stage of economic, civic, and cultural life, accelerating toward an “information singularity” driven by the mutual reinforcement of AI and QIS. We chart the shift from the classic TPS/MIS/DSS/ESS categories to platform-centric stacks organized around records, insights, decisions, actions, and governance-as-code. Agentic AI replaces static reporting with end-to-end, policy-bounded loops that perceive, decide, and act while producing auditable evidence. This expands the risk surface and makes executable governance a first-class design goal. Looking ahead, Quantum AI may extend combinatorial optimization and real-time simulation across ERP, SCM, CRM, BI, and decision-making, while putting pressure on cryptography, auditability, and privacy. The chapter advances a stewardship agenda for these future developments with assured autonomy, machine-readable governance, post-quantum and privacy-by-default architectures, resilience against adversarial and model risks, and investment in hybrid literacies that bridge people, technology, process, and law. To translate these principles into actionable guidance, we introduce a conceptual Information Singularity Readiness Maturity Model that sequences organizational capabilities for governing AI-enabled autonomy and quantum-era security transitions. We conclude that, if built with guardrails, proven with evidence, protected at the core, coordinated across borders, and educated for stewardship, information singularity becomes a navigable horizon that yields systems both more intelligent and efficient.
