Abstract: Abstract The transition from Industry 4.0 (I4.0) to Industry 5.0 (I5.0) represents an important shift in industrial operations, emphasising human-centricity, sustainability, and resilience. While I4.0 focused on automation, smart manufacturing, and data-driven decision making, I5.0 integrates advanced technology with human intelligence, ethical considerations, and societal well-being. This study examines the transition from I4.0 to I5.0 and explores how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Sweden and Thailand navigate this transformation. Through a comparative case study, this chapter analyses the challenges, strategies, and factors influencing I5.0 adoption in both regions. Findings indicate that Swedish SMEs exhibit a higher level of I5.0 integration due to stronger institutional support, well-established collaboration networks, and greater financial resources. In contrast, Thai SMEs face financial and technical barriers that hinder rapid adoption. Despite these differences, both regions acknowledge the importance of resilience, sustainability, and workforce upskilling in ensuring a successful transition to I5.0. This chapter provides key insights into the role of geographical, cultural, and economic factors in shaping industrial evolution and highlights best practices for SMEs seeking to leverage I5.0 for long-term competitiveness and sustainability.
