Abstract: Abstract In this chapter we learn about Leipzig University’s offer of a professorship to Van der Waerden, and the assistance Peter Debye provided to the young Dutchman. While at Leipzig, Van der Waerden befriends physicists Werner Heisenberg and Carl-Friedrich von Weizsäcker.
