Abstract:
Abstract Max Dehn introduced a number of important decision problems in algebra and topology. For groups, the isomorphism problem is to decide if two finite presentations represent isomorphic groups or not. The analogous question for manifolds is to decide if two compact n-dimensional manifolds are homeomorphic or not. For manifolds, the method of presentation could be via triangulations or handle descriptions.
