Chapter Chapter 1 in Design Science Research, 2015, pp 1-10 from Springer
Abstract:

Although they may seem distant from one another, both theory and practice seek to create knowledge that can be applied to improve existing systems or, rather, to help in the design and conception of new systems, products, or services.
