A chapter in High Performance Computing in Science and Engineering ‘14, 2015, pp 683-691 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In the VasCan project we use a multiscale model [1, 2] to simulate angiogenesis and vascular tumour growth. The model is based on a cellular automaton approach and couples intracellular processes, active cell movement, cell-cell interaction, extracellular diffusion, and a dynamically evolving vascular network. In order to obtain a better understanding of both our model parameters and the interaction between the model modules, we conducted a sensitivity analysis. The simulation studies are controlled via a MatLab/Java programme that generates parameter files, starts the simulations on the HLRS and finally organises the transfer and storage of the simulation results. The visualisation of the large data sets was also automated. The goal is to improve our model understanding and the predictive potential for future tumour growth and therapy simulations.
