Abstract:
Abstract This chapter introduces the background to the research, its importance in the context of China and other countries, the rationale for the selection of the case study communities in rural China, and the composition of the research team. It also describes other research on the topic, the perceived gaps, and the opportunities for multidiscipline approaches––building upon the individual and group expertise of the team––to add new perspectives and develop innovative approaches and solutions.
