Abstract: Abstract Due to poor usability of medical devices adverse events occur. To lay foundations to prevent such occurrences we present and discuss usability evaluation methods for medical devices from a theoretical perspective. Additionally, results from a focus group discussion are elaborated which targeted the identification of appropriate usability methods. Combining literature and empirical data, we suggest an assembling of heuristic evaluation and a supplementary usability questionnaire to evaluate medical devices. Applying this combined instrument, we expect a reduction of adverse events in medical treatment.
