Chapter Chapter 7 in Differential Topology, 2015, pp 199-223 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The concept of a tubular neighbourhood was introduced by Whitney in [56] and [59]. This sketches a link between vector bundle and topology of manifold depicting how nicely a submanifold is embedded in a manifold. If M is submanifold of N, then a tubular neighbourhood of M is a neighbourhood of M in N which resembles the normal bundle of M in N. Thus a tubular neighbourhood describes the topology of a neighbourhood of the submanifold.
