Abstract:
Abstract The accuracy of land-use/land-cover (LULC) data plays a critical role for improving regional climate simulations. In this study, we implement three observed (2001, 2005, and 2010) and one projected high-resolution LULC data for the Vu Gia-Thu Bon (VGTB) basin of Central Vietnam into the Weather Research & Forecasting (WRF) model. As an option in WRF, the Noah land-surface model is used to model the land’s state variables. Simulated hydro-meteorological variables such as precipitation and temperature from the updated and WRF-default LULC runs are compared with observations in the VGTB basin. The results give evidence that the updated LULC data lead to an improved representation of annual precipitation and average temperature for the region. Even though there are still some inconsistencies in representing the maximum and minimum temperatures as well as precipitation in the dry and wet season we can conclude that using the updated LULC data improves the regional climate simulations.
