Abstract:
Abstract In this paper, the effects of mico-jet Micro-jet impingement Impingement on the formation of soot nano-particles Nano-particle , CO, CO 2, and C 6H 6 species in a turbulent Turbulent paraffin-oil Paraffin-oil flame Flame are investigated numerically. In this regard, we use a two-equation κ-ε turbulence model, a PAH-inception two-equation soot model, a detailed chemical kinetic Detailed chemical kinetic consisting of 121 species and 2613 elementary reactions, and steady flamelet Flame combustion Combustion model. We take into account the turbulence-chemistry interaction by using presumed-shape probability density functions PDFs. We also take into account the radiation heat transfer of soot and gases assuming optically-thin flame Flame . In the first place, we solve a documented experimental test case and compare the flame Flame structure to evaluate our numerical results. Then, we embed a micro-scale injector Injector at the burner Burner wall, split the incoming air-flow between primary and secondary streams, inject the secondary air into the burner Burner via the embeded injector Injector , and compare the results for different values of impinging-jet mass flow rate. Our results show that the mico-jet Micro-jet impingement Impingement affects the reactive flow behavior within the burner Burner and results in a compact-flame Flame near the fuel-injector Fuel-injector nozzle. Our calculations also show that the emission of CO 2 is slightly affected by the mico-jet Micro-jet impingement Impingement . They show that increasing the mass flow rate of the micro-impinging-jet effectively reduces the formation and emission of the soot nano-aerosol Aerosol and CO, C 6H 6 pollutants Pollutant . It is also found that mico-jet Micro-jet impingement Impingement leads to a more uniform profiles of temperature, soot volume fraction, and mass fractions of CO, CO 2, and C 6H 6 at the burner Burner outlet.
