Abstract: Abstract Food Security is a Millennium Development Goal and stated strategic global development objective. The world has to produce more food to accommodate rapidly rising demand due to population and income growth, but food systems are under severe stress due to climate change, a diet shift to animal products and resource degradation. The food crisis of the 1970s gave way to complacency in the 1980s and 1990s, but the recently observed world food price trend reversal, coupled with higher volatility renewed interest on food security. This time, though, the global terrain is different. Globalisation led to population affluence, changing consumption, production and trade patterns, and significantly affecting population well-being everywhere. Hence, food security is an important policy concern. Globalisation brings a new dimension in the discussion on public policy on food security since complicated GVCs dominate world trade and international agricultural markets. This volume brings together contributions from experts on a number of dimensions of food security and a number of case studies. Its aim is to shed light to the nexus of food security and globalization, as well as its implications for investment and financing in the agro-food sector.
