Abstract: Abstract Projective geometry was developed in the first half of the nineteenth century as a generalization of Euclidean geometry. This new geometry emphasized geometric figures being equivalent under projections from threespace onto various planes. This developed into synthetic geometry in the spirit of Euclidean geometry as well as an analytic version using a variety of coordinate systems. One important consequence of the developments in projective geometry was the creation of various types of projective space, which became an important part of twentieth-century algebraic geometry.
