A chapter in Scientific Computing and Algorithms in Industrial Simulations, 2017, pp 135-151 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this paper, the general concepts of multiphysical and multidisciplinary simulations are described. Concurrently, the neutral interface software tool set MpCCI is presented, which has been developed at Fraunhofer SCAI. The main tool MpCCI CouplingEnvironment offers the possibility to simulate the bi-directional interaction between different physical phenomena or disciplines. It builds a neutral interface where specialized simulation tools from different vendors can be coupled at run-time. The capabilities of the tool are illustrated for typical application domains, starting from fluid-structure interactions, through vehicle dynamics modeling, automotive thermal management and up to electrical engineering. The software MpCCI FSIMapper is a file-based tool, which allows to transfer data from a fluid dynamics or electromagnetic simulation result to a structural simulation. The mapped data serve as initial or boundary condition or as loading and thus lead to more realistic structural simulations. The third tool MpCCI Mapper enables to consider the whole manufacturing history of a component in a final proof simulation. Local material properties induced by metal forming and their influence to a crash load case or the local fiber orientation in composites in consequence of draping and molding are presented amongst others.
