Abstract:
Abstract The discrete uniform distribution occurs when the random variable x can take on any integer value from a to b with equal probability. A church raffle of 1000 numbers (1–1000) is such a system where the winning number, x, is equally likely to be any of the numbers in the admissible range. Often the parameters (a,b) are known apriori to an analyst who is seeking to apply the distribution. Other times the parameters are not known and sample data is provided to estimate the parameters. Still on other occasions when the parameters are not known and no sample data is available, the analyst seeks advise from an expert who provides some approximations on the range, and this information is used to estimate the parameter values.
