Chapter Chapter 10 in Introduction to Relation Algebras, 2017, pp 403-418 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The notion of a relativization of a relation algebra $$ \mathfrak{U} $$ is closely related to the notion of a subalgebra of $$ \mathfrak{U} $$ . In the latter, the fundamental operations of $$ \mathfrak{U} $$ are restricted to a subset of $$ \mathfrak{U} $$ that is closed under these operations. In the former, the fundamental operations of $$ \mathfrak{U} $$ are relativized to the subset of all elements below a given element. Relativizations play a fundamental role in the study of direct decompositions of relation algebras.
