Chapter Chapter 10 in Unpublished Manuscripts, 2018, pp 60-66 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The purpose of these pages is to study how the vertical electrical component of an electromagnetic wave propagating over a homogeneous earth with plane boundary will be affected by small local variations in its electrical constants. This problem has been frequently studied in the literature (see Bremmer [1] and the references there). We shall here follow a somewhat different path, by solving the variational equation for the first variation of the field.
