Chapter 2 in Digital Business Models, 2019, pp 27-55 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The chapter brings together a summary of the Internet of Things (IoT) from three key perspectives: technology, business and ethics. It is clear that these perspectives are grounded in different disciplines but are in reality not possible to separate. The chapter discusses the most important research outcomes. The technology aspect looks at devices, communications and platforms, business model innovation relates the technology to the method of using business model canvases to develop novel business models and IoT, while ethics highlights the pitfalls and challenges of working with novel technologies in a business context. We are still at an early stage in understanding how these disciplines best fit one context, providing usable methods and tools for realizing the full potential of IoT for business and society.
