Abstract: Abstract A thermal-mechanical coupling finite element method (FEM) model is built up for the cross wedge rolling (CWR) process, based on the large elastic-plastic deformation FEM and the heat transfer theories. The influence of die parameters and rolling initial conditions on the temperature distribution and variation of the workpiece is described in the model. The overall temperature field of the rolled workpiece, the influence of the reduction rate of sectional area, the stretching angle, the forming angle, the initial rolling temperature and the temperature of both die and coral deformed zone of the workpiece are analyzed and discussed in detail. It is demonstrated that in the rolling process, the temperature of the workpiece in the deformed zone is affected mainly by the contact heat-conduction and plastic deformation heat. The simulating results coincide well with the experimental ones given by former researchers.
