Chapter Chapter 16 in Direct Store Delivery, 2009, pp 207-220 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Mobile phones are increasingly becoming a necessary platform for business applications. This “business mobilization” is driven by technology, IT policy, social trends, as well as business model evolution. DSD is a natural beneficiary of this increasing use of mobile phones as a business platform. This article provides a mobile perspective for future DSD applications and identifies the possible impact of current trends in this field. We show with several examples that multiple use cases for Mobile phone DSD exist today and complement/extend traditional use cases, especially for small to medium businesses. As mobile DSD continues to evolve and new areas such as social marketing and Mobile SOA technology advance, DSD has the potential to extend into new application areas. We foresee that increased home and office use of mobile platforms will complement traditional desktop models and play a major role in the future success of DSD applications.
