Chapter 37 in Handbook Utility Management, 2008, pp 629-663 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Despite fundamental similarities, the organization, management and regulation of utilities have evolved along different paths in different parts of the world. With the current interest in liberalizing the industry and introducing competition into electricity markets, policymakers in the US and in Europe have similar goals and are following similar strategies and facing similar challenges. This chapter provides an overview of the regulatory structure of the two continents and their approaches to regulations while pursuing functioning integrated electricity markets in large interconnected networks.
