Chapter 5 in Managing Innovation from the Land of Ideas and Talent, 2009, pp 119-153 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Developers at SAP take immense pride in the work they do. Development groups are considered special, and the title ‘Developer’ is revered inside the organization. Engineering excellence and admiration for craftsmanship are part of the company culture and are generally expected from a German company. From the early days onwards, Labs India focused creating a location that lived and breathed the same engineering culture as in Germany. Development tasks were done in taking into consideration every activity in the software development lifecycle. In this way, developers could gain comprehensive knowledge of the customers’ trouble points and develop deeper insight into the challenges faced by end users.
