Abstract:
Abstract The second half of the 1990s witnessed an almost threefold increase in the number of exports by India’s electronics industry. This chapter proposes and empirically tests a model to analyze the export intensity of 164 electronics firms in India; the Tobit model is estimated, using firm-level panel data from India’s electronics industry for the period 2000–2005. The results indicate that firm size, foreign direct investment, and capital employed have played an important role in boosting exports in this sector. The findings have policy implications for the measures to be implemented to improve the electronics sector’s performance in India and in other, similar countries.
