Chapter 8 in XBRL for Interactive Data, 2009, pp 149-188 from Springer

Abstract: In this chapter, we extend our discussion on dimensions in the previous chapter. The XBRL Dimensions 1.0 specification created a full range of new modeling possibilities in the engineering of XBRL taxonomies. These additional semantics not only extend the understanding of metadata that is going to be reported but also introduces new validation possibilities thus enhancing the data quality. We will use a number of examples in this chapter to introduce advanced aspects of engineering XBRL dimensional solutions.
