Chapter Chapter 3 in Managed Evolution, 2010, pp 79-128 from Springer

Abstract: Summary Integration architecture provides the key concepts, processes and mechanisms for the implementation of managed evolution. At the heart of integration architecture is the decomposition of the very large information system into manageable components and the decoupling of the components by managed interfaces with formal syntax and precise semantics. The managed interfaces are enriched by non-functional properties and thus form services which are governed by stable contracts between service provider and service consumers. Administration and management of the service inventory is a major task in a very large information system belonging to a large, complex organization. Service delivery is based on a dependable service delivery infrastructure, implemented as an enterprise service bus.
