Chapter Chapter 1 in Creating Balance?, 2011, pp 3-26 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In the last 30 years a remarkable amount of research has been dedicated to the work–life interface, investigating work–life conflict and enrichment from many different angles and in different populations. A group that deserves particular attention and has received increasing interest in work–life research in the last few years is what we call professionals. These are usually hard working individuals in highly demanding work environments characteristically facing long working hours, high workload and pressure to succeed, and the need to travel frequently.
