Abstract: Abstract In this paper we first show the impact of the Abhyankar-Moh Theorem on various problems concerning the affine plane. Then we discuss possible generalizations of the AM-Theorem and describe how these may lead to counterexamples in dimension 5 of several problems which were shown to be true in the plane.
