A chapter in The Roots of Logistics, 2012, pp 127-132 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In searching for the roots of logistics and its conceptualization as a science of flows and flow systems, the earliest reference found is from the French physician and surgeon François Quesnay (1694–1774). Later in his life he turned to economics and became one of the founders of the Physiocratic school of economics.
