Abstract:
Abstract We discuss, from an experimental mathematics viewpoint, a classical problem in epidemiology recently discussed by Ewens and Wilf, that can be formulated in terms of “balls in boxes”, and demonstrate that the “Poission approximation” (usually) suffices.
