A chapter in Numerical Mathematics and Advanced Applications 2011, 2013, pp 429-439 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract A novel discretization strategy, dubbed m-adaptation, is developed for solving the acoustic wave equation (in the time domain) on rectangular meshes. The developed method is based on a scheme that is second-order accurate in space and time but has the sixth-order numerical anisotropy on square meshes and the fourth order dispersion on rectangular meshes.
