Chapter Chapter 6 in A Course in In-Memory Data Management, 2013, pp 37-42 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Since memory is the new bottleneck, it is required to minimize access to it. Accessing a smaller number of columns can do this on the one hand; so only required attributes are queried. On the other hand, decreasing the number of bits used for data representation can reduce both memory consumption and memory access times.
