A Survey of Research in the Mathematical Sciences in Medieval Islam from 1996 to 2011
Glen Van Brummelen
A chapter in From Alexandria, Through Baghdad, 2014, pp 101-138 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Len Berggren’s two surveys of the mathematical sciences in medieval Islam, the two preceding articles in this volume, synthesized a vast body of literature. Their scope extended well beyond mathematics itself to include overlapping disciplines such as optics, geography and astronomy. In addition, the surveys recognized questions in the literature related to transmission, regional differences, and the issue of the perception of decline in later periods.
