Leadership, the Group, and Dynamics: How to Generate Leadership Strength in Conflict Situations

Chapter 7 in The Psychology of Human Leadership, 2014, pp 143-168 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Conflict is essentially the central issue of our life or our social life. Conflicts challenge us. We experience them as distressing but often unavoidable and, as such, they are also present in everyday leadership. As we will see later, the result of conflict is effectively what triggers the need for leadership in a group. A group that is completely free from conflict does not require leadership but, by definition, moves harmoniously in a single direction that is clearly desired by everyone.
